I read it in the papers today, all about the high water at high noon. They wouldn’t even print his name or maybe I just can’t remember his name. It doesn’t really matter because the creek claimed it yesterday.

On the day that he died they chopped down the rope swing.

All the neighbors searched day and night. Every last neighbor searched day and night. They never found his body and they say they never will. So a few men in town fetched an axe and they chopped down the tree, the one we all would swing from.
